In this session Elisabeth Severino Fernandes will touch on what creating a safe stage could mean. Using practical case studies/examples, we will discuss the problems that might arise when working with artists and audiences coming out of invisible/marginalized communities and the solutions we can come up with to create a positive, nurturing space.
In the context of the international talent development program CELA, deBuren and Passa Porta are organizing a unique specialisation course on literary curatorship. In a series of 5 online Zoom masterclasses we are welcoming renowned speakers from the Belgian and Dutch literary field. After a presentation and in some cases an exercise, there will be time for questions and discussion.
Click here for an overview of all masterclasses.
Price per workshop: €5 if you work for a literary organization | €0 for CELA-participants and freelance curators
We want to keep this program accessible for everyone. If your organization does not offer a compensation for your participation, please contact us via info@deburen.eu before 11/05/2021, and we will seek to reserve a ticket for you.
Elisabeth Severino Fernandes, aka Miss Elli was born in Madrid but grew up in Belgium. Her mother is from Portugal, her father from the Dominican Republic. Miss Elli is a committed artist, a jack of all trades: spoken word, discovering and training young talents, theater, music, … This troubadour is the founder and driving force behind Mama’s Open Mic and Grab The Mic, two game-changing projects for the Flemish poetry scene. As a poet, she has performed on large stages, including those of music festivals such as Pukkelpop and Reggae Geel, but also those of every major theater in Flanders and Theater aan Zee (Theater by the Sea). She is an activist, director, curator or a star in the spotlights. Her poetry is an electric cocktail of radical sounds and languages. Her voice speaks for itself. Only after you have seen her live, can you truly grasp the magnitude of the Flemish Godmother of Poetry.
CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists) offers a European context to a new generation of literary creators. The only one of its kind in Europe, it brings together 18 emerging authors, 22 emerging translators and 5 emerging literary professionals to show the potential of literature to connect people, to offer a bigger opportunity to small languages and to drive change. Together the participants tackle some of the challenging realities of our age – from increasingly sharp divisions within Europe to a changing book publishing industry – and place them in perspective, share their work, and bridge the gaps between each other, the publishing industry and the European public.
