Organizing with and for communities

A masterclass for (aspiring) literary curators and event planners
© Gaby Jongenelen Fotografie for CELA

In this workshop Silvie Moors will give an introduction into reading together with specific (often vulnerable) groups and tackle topics as how to cooperate with communities and literary organizers, and how to select texts for this purpose. We finish with an exercise: reading together.

In the context of the international talent development program CELA, deBuren and Passa Porta are organizing a unique specialisation course on literary curatorship.  In a series of 5 online Zoom masterclasses we are welcoming renowned speakers from the Belgian and Dutch literary field. After a presentation and in some cases an exercise, there will be time for questions and discussion.

Click here for an overview of all masterclasses.

Price per workshop: €5 if you work for a literary organization | €0 for CELA-participants and freelance curators

We want to keep this program accessible for everyone. If your organization does not offer a compensation for your participation, please contact us via info@deburen.eu before 11/05/2021, and we will seek to reserve a ticket for you.

Silvie Moors

Silvie Moors studied Dutch and English at the University of Antwerp. For 10 years, she worked as a project officer at the Nationaal Centrum voor Jeugdliteratuur and at Stichting Lezen (Iedereen leest). In 2007, she founded her own literary organization, DE DAGEN, which focused on the promotion of reading and on vulnerable groups. She specialized in Shared Reading: together with about 50 volunteers, she read world literature in hospitals, psychiatric institutions, community centers, and schools. In September 2021, DE DAGEN was incorporated in the socio-cultural organization Bond zonder Naam.

CELA

CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists) offers a European context to a new generation of literary creators. The only one of its kind in Europe, it brings together 18 emerging authors, 22 emerging translators and 5 emerging literary professionals to show the potential of literature to connect people, to offer a bigger opportunity to small languages and to drive change. Together the participants tackle some of the challenging realities of our age – from increasingly sharp divisions within Europe to a changing book publishing industry – and place them in perspective, share their work, and bridge the gaps between each other, the publishing industry and the European public.
