In this session Marleen Nagtegaal will tackle these topics: What is the story behind your programming and how do you involve your surroundings? How to discover literary talent and to choose the right person for the right format? Programming for an international literary festival? And how does a literary production house work?
In the context of the international talent development program CELA, deBuren and Passa Porta are organizing a unique specialisation course on literary curatorship. In a series of 5 online Zoom masterclasses we are welcoming renowned speakers from the Belgian and Dutch literary field. After a presentation and in some cases an exercise, there will be time for questions and discussion.
Click here for an overview of all masterclasses.
Price per workshop: €5 if you work for a literary organization | €0 for CELA-participants and freelance curators
We want to keep this program accessible for everyone. If your organization does not offer a compensation for your participation, please contact us via info@deburen.eu before 11/05/2021, and we will seek to reserve a ticket for you.
Marleen Nagtegaal is the artistic director of production house and festival Explore the North in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. Explore the North started small, in 2011. Now, ten years later, it is an annual interdisciplinary festival during three days in November. Since 2019, Explore the North is also a production house for young, local writers and other artists. Marleen Nagtegaal is also the artistic director of Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature.
CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists) offers a European context to a new generation of literary creators. The only one of its kind in Europe, it brings together 18 emerging authors, 22 emerging translators and 5 emerging literary professionals to show the potential of literature to connect people, to offer a bigger opportunity to small languages and to drive change. Together the participants tackle some of the challenging realities of our age – from increasingly sharp divisions within Europe to a changing book publishing industry – and place them in perspective, share their work, and bridge the gaps between each other, the publishing industry and the European public.
