WHAT IS AS TIDE? AS TIDE NETWORKS is a European Network of cultural centres and operators (Cittadellarte ? Fondazione Pistoletto, deBuren, Hangar, next, St James Cavalier) dedicated to conceive and develop art projects as tools for intercultural dialogue and socio-economical development. The project acts on three levels: education-training, actions (participatory workshops on social design in local communities) and diffusion (magazine on-line platform). As_Tide is financed with the support of the Culture Programme (2007-2013) of the European Union.
GENERAL AIMS OF THE WORKSHOP The workshop in Brussels is the first action of the As Tide project. What roles does art have in society? In what way can creative processes influence the social-cultural and economic relations? What role can art play in constructing a city and an active citizenship? The five day workshop will provide an interdisciplinary group a field experience providing them with a framework to define new role models for artists inside society. The workshop offers a number of encounters with experts in order to analyse and discuss case studies. The groups will collaborate in the ideation and realization of a project proposal which will be presented during the conclusion day. The knowledge acquired by the participants during the workshop will become an important and useful working tool for organising and managing cultural initiatives in different disciplinary, interdisciplinary and intercultural fields.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES Adopting the model based on direct experimentation (learning by doing), through analysis and discussion our intention is: - to share the experience work in a group committed to develop a joint project in a weeks time - to read the city through the lens of socially engaged art. - to analyse art's responsibility within society through an interdisciplinary approach and the focus on art and economy.
