Gidsenwerking, Grote Markt 15, 2000 Antwerp

The writer Willem Elsschot (1882-1960) is inextricably linked to Antwerp. Elsschot was born and raised in this city on the River Scheldt, where he founded his own family and business and wrote his most famous books. Het Dwaallicht (tr. Will-o'-the-Wisp) is the intriguing story of three Afghan sailors who set out to find a certain Maria Van Dam. During their search, Laarmans, Elsschot's alter ego, leads them through the city on a drizzly November evening. Discover the characters, the places and the route through Antwerp on this special walk. It was devised by Eric Rinckhout, author of Dwaalspoor. Op zoek naar de waarheid achter Het Dwaallicht van Willem Elsschot (Meulenhoff/Manteau), for Antwerpen Boekenstad.

Until 29th June the walk ends in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where the drawings of Kaas, een beeldroman by Dick Matena are on display.

Price per guide: 60 EUR + 3 EUR administration costs. No more than 20 people per guide.  Duration of the tour: 2 hours max.
