Together, deBuren and Vrijstaat O. are starting a refreshing series of literary encounters: nieuwe maatjes. The main guest is an eminent Dutch writer. He or she designates a young fellow-writer from over the border to join them in a discussion. Naturally, they'll be reading from their own work and you can have your own books signed. Besides this, the main guest chooses which music they would like to hear played live.

The first guest is Jan Terlouw (1931). Terlouw was a politician (D66) and is one of the leading Dutch writers of children's books. Nowadays he writes thrillers together with his daughter. Something he has in common with the writer that he's invited: Bouke Billiet (1981). Billiet wrote children's books with his father, debuted with the well-received novel In de naam van TienKamelen and wrote a citybook on Semarang (Indonesia).

Moreover, this same afternoon also sees the premiere of the artistic exchange programme BCC. We'll be shutting away a young (male or female) Dutch poet and a young (male or female) Flemish artist for 24 hours in Ostend. They are both unaware of whom they'll be facing beforehand. They'll first meet each other at 3.00pm on Saturday when we'll announce who we have invited. On Sunday they'll be presenting a Gesammtkunstwerk: an original meeting of word and image. Exciting!

Presentation is in the hands of Barbara Debusschere (De Morgen). Karel Cuelenaere (piano), Ruben Lamon (bass) and Matthias De Waele (drums) – the jazz trio Trioxide – add the musical colour with a great mix of evergreens, their own arrangements of pop songs and their own material.
