Europe lent huge sums of money to Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Cyprus to help them cope with the crisis. The ‘troika' - the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the IMF - enforced extremely harsh economic measures. The well-known German investigative journalist and author Harald Schumann visited the four countries and travelled to Brussels, Washington, New York and London to track down the dynamics and balance of power behind these measures. The result, The Trail of the Troika (2015, Schumann & Bondy), includes interviews with among others Paul Krugman and Yanis Varoufakis, Greece's minister of Finance. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Harald Schumann and sociologist-publicist Merijn Oudenampsen.

The screening fits into a broader films and reading programme, The Cost of Wealth, curated by Florian Wüst. Full details on www.cinematek.be and www.jubilee-art.org. Organisation: Jubilee in cooperation with Goethe-Institut, CINEMATEK, Argos and deBuren.
