deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussel

The celebrated Dutch cellist, composer and improviser Ernst Reijseger has worked with artists from every genre and discipline. Misha Mengelberg, Werner Herzog and Ramsey Nasr are just three of them. He gladly accepted to open this season of deBuren is all Ears with a lunchtime concert, followed by an evening's performance with the author Bouke Billiet.

‘Ernst is a magnificent cellist, and he can do anything, anything on his cello. He could play the American Civil War on his cello' (Werner Herzog).

"Beautiful, intense, classical, dissonant, controlled, loose, dark, frivolous. Some pieces flow like a soft stream in spring, some are percussive repetitive single plucked notes, some are filled with high-pitched overtones, some with hesitating soft bows, but whatever he does, it is beautiful, simple, rich, inviting and welcoming." (Free Jazz over Crystal Palace van Ernst Reijseger (Winter & Winter, 2014)).
