In Dutch and English

On 20 October, Arnon Grunberg will give a lecture on the subject of 'Jewish identities in Europe' at the Flemish-Dutch House deBuren. The lecture will be followed by an interview. The evening is organised by deBuren on the occasion of this autumn's cultural programme of the Goethe-Institut: 'Jews in Europe. Stories of love and darkness'.

Arnon Grunberg made his debut at the age of 23 with the novel Blauwe maandagen (1994), which NRC Handelsblad hailed as ‘a rarity in Dutch literature'. He followed it up with many more books, including Figuranten (1997), Fantoompijn (2000), De Mensheid zij geprezen. Lof der zotheid 2001 (2001) and De asielzoeker (2003). His controversial novel De Joodse Messias was published in 2004. This year, he published - under his pseudonym Marek van der Jagt - the ‘philosophy month gift’: Otto Weininger, of Bestaat de jood?.

Grunberg has received many important literary awards for his work, both in the Netherlands and in Flanders. Grunberg writes a weekly column in VPRO-gids and HUMO and is a contributor to NRC Handelsblad.
